Enabling USB Debugging

Here is a video on how to connect your Android to the Hearsay Extractor with USB Debugging.

Enable Developer Mode on Android (Step-by-Step)

Tip: Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer. If you don’t see an item exactly as written, use the 🔍 search bar in Settings.

1. Turn on Developer Mode

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap About phone (or About device).

  3. Scroll to Build number

    • On some phones it’s inside Software information.

  4. Tap Build number 7 times

    • You’ll see “You are now a developer!” 🎉

2. Activate the Required Developer Options

  1. Return to SettingsDeveloper options (now visible near the bottom).

  2. Toggle Keep device awakeOn

    • Sometimes listed as Stay awake or Screen always on while charging.

  3. Toggle USB debuggingOn

Sometimes your phone may have Auto Blocker settings. To disable it or adjust settings, navigate to "Settings" > "Security and privacy" > "Auto Blocker".

3. After Your Extraction

  1. Go back to SettingsDeveloper options

  2. Turn Developer optionsOff
