A Client Document Portal Built for Evidence
A secure client portal built for evidence, not just files: clients upload documents, connect email and financial accounts, and run phone collections from one link, and your firm gets everything searchable with chain of custody. Pay-per-use, no seat fees.
Hearsay's client portal is where your clients send you what a case needs, from one link you email them: their documents, their email accounts, their social media, their bank records and a complete collection from their phone. Everything arrives in your review workspace searchable, with timestamps, hashes and chain-of-custody documentation, instead of as a pile of attachments and screenshots.
It is a client portal in the sense your clients expect, secure, simple, no software to buy, and something more: the intake step of discovery, done once, done properly.
What clients can send through the portal
Documents. Files up to 1 GB each through the standard portal (larger by arrangement), in any format, through the Bulk Document Collector. Documents become searchable alongside messages and email, with optional OCR page by page.
Email. Clients connect Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud Mail or any IMAP account, and you cull by keyword, folder and date before anything is collected. Cloud Email Collector.
Text messages. From the same portal, clients run a collection of SMS, MMS, RCS, iMessage and WhatsApp from their iPhone or Android on their own computer, with voicemail, photos and call logs (Android). The phone never leaves them. Text Message Collector.
Social media. LinkedIn, Facebook, Threads, Instagram and other platforms: DMs, posts, comments and connection lists, collected from the platform's own data export with original metadata preserved and hash verification, without the client sharing a password. Social Media Collector.
Financial records. Clients connect bank and credit card accounts from 12,000+ institutions; transactions arrive grouped into categories for income verification and budgets. Financial Transaction Collector.
How it works for your firm
- Create the case and send the request. From your Hearsay workspace, create the matter and send the client a collection request. They receive an email with a link and an activation code.
- The client uploads and connects. They open the portal, upload documents, connect the accounts you asked for, and run the phone collection if one is requested. Live support is available to them throughout, and a rental laptop program covers clients without a suitable computer.
- The client chooses what to share. Only the conversations and files the client selects leave their computer. Nothing is collected without their action.
- You review. The data lands in your workspace, searchable across every source, ready to tag, annotate and produce in PDF, Excel, RSMF and other formats. Review tools.
How it's different from a file-sharing portal
A file-sharing portal gives you what the client chose to attach: the screenshots they took, the emails they forwarded, the PDF their bank let them download. Hearsay's portal collects from the source, so what you receive is complete and can be authenticated: the whole message thread with full timestamps and sender numbers rather than a cropped screenshot; the email account culled by your criteria rather than a forwarded selection; social media collected from the platform's own export with its metadata and a hash rather than a photo of a phone; transactions pulled from the institution rather than a statement PDF.
Every collection records encryption hashes and an audit log, and produces chain-of-custody documentation. When the other side asks how the exhibit was made, there is an answer. Data integrity and authenticity.
Collections from the other side
The same portal handles collection requests to an opposing party. Your firm sends the request from the case, the collection runs through your account, and the other side gets a review-and-release step before any data transfers, so the process is agreed and documented rather than argued about.
Security
Hearsay is SOC 2 Type II. Clients keep their devices and their passwords: social media is captured without credential sharing, email is connected through the provider's own authorization, and phone collections run locally on the client's computer with only the selected data shared. Access inside your firm is controlled per user and per file. Data protection and privacy.
Pricing
Pay-per-use, with no seat fees, no contracts and a free account to start. You pay for the collections you run, not for the portal or for the number of people who use it. See pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a client portal or an eDiscovery tool?
Both. To your client it is a secure portal with one link and clear instructions. To your firm it is the collection step of discovery: every source arrives verified, searchable and ready for review, in the same workspace you produce from.
Do clients need to install anything?
Only for a phone collection or a social media export, both of which run through the Hearsay extractor on the client's own Windows (7+) or Mac (10.14+) computer. Document uploads, email and financial connections happen in the browser.
What if a client doesn't have a computer?
A rental laptop program is available for phone collections, and in-person extraction can be arranged for matters that need it.
Can I control what the client is asked for?
Yes. You choose which sources to request and, for email, the keyword, folder and date criteria. The client decides what to share from what is collected.
Is there a per-user or per-seat fee?
No. Hearsay is pay-per-use; the portal, review workspace and firm access are included with the collections you run.
